Takes a few weeks for the body to get used to real food. Luckily (and, at the same time, worrying) mine smell like the dogs at the moment so he cops the blame at home.

Work, boot camp and gym I have my trusty well used 'look of disgust at someone else' to fall back on.

Timing is everything.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
To be honest. It wouldn’t take me a lot to put on some muscle mass as I am puny now! Just need to get in the gym and start eating more and lifting some weights on a regular basis!

Re: Fitness thread 2020
Plenty of exercise, introduce active cholesterol reducing foods and cut down on fat a bit. Do that for a few months and you will see a difference.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
w4hammer,

Fact is us middle aged types if we stay very active can still be fit (for purpose) and our Top Trump best score will be endurance.

But the rest of it, building muscle mass and aesetics for all but the exceptional is gone or will be vastly diminished.

The only way for us to get positive results (on weight loss and shape) is obsessive calorie and Composition logging and that includes every beer, wine, cider, chocolate bar and pack of crisps that used to be my weekend decompression treats.

I hit 50 this year and would like to do that only a kilo or two more than when I was 40 so am doing just that at the moment. - It is doable and sustainable but it aint much fun.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
four page section in the saturday times with their latest "guru" Matt Brown and a 40's chap who's tried everything---and of course suddenly he's turned into some kind of sculpted god ...

Have a read of it if you can see it- most of it is common sense and well known by all- however, and its a big however, there's always a section that says " alcohol- it best to do without however if you want to reward yourself then one or two days/nights a week where you should limit yourself to one or two drinks is ok "

NOT. GONNA .HAPPEN !

Thats my issue - i go to the gym 2-3 times a week , a decent combo of cardio/boxing/ varied weights and 5 a side twice a month

dont really drink much/at all during the week however cant shift a single lb due to loving me lager binges at the weekend;-)

Now treadmills ARE boring!

30 minutes is the max for me.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
Started that beginners course at the running club last night. About 50 people turned up, almost turned round and went home but stuck with it. Thought I would hang around at the back but ended up walking past a few and then on the jogging bits I went past a few more. Ended up splitting the groups up and I went on with the faster runners, ended up at the front of that without really pushing myself. Massive confidence booster! Will do some work on the treadmill tomorrow and Saturday but I really really enjoyed it! Never thought I would say that!

I’m not far off 40 and spend a quarter of each year off injured. Sucks and makes me feel sorry for footballers who get injured in their prime

Do a couple meta fit sessions each week, I've noticed more improvement in my general fitness through it than anything else I've done, gym, loads of 5-a-side etcetc.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
Motivation and discipline is required. No pain, no gain and injuries will set you back.

Cut out all carbs is best imho.

I don’t find running boring if I listen to music unless on a treadmill. Try to run on grass instead of concrete to reduce impact injuries if possible.

Dieting and exercising is best as when you start to see the results of your hard earned work you motivate yourself to think much more about what your going to eat, because you don’t want to undo all of your hard work.

If very out of shape best to take it slowly to avoid injuries, swimming best to start until weight reduced.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
I've lost 3/4 of a stone since July, I now weigh 15 stone (I'm 6'5")
Cut out sugar in my tea and eating cake and biscuits, still have a takeaway once a week. For exercise I do two 45 minute walks a day. Hasn't seemed like a great deal of effort or a hardship.

No point setting yourself unrealistic goals or doing anything which isn't sustainable. Whatever you do needs to fit in with the rest of your life or you won't stick to it.

I did London to Paris in 2016
Great 4 days had a proper laugh doing it as well. Used to ride a lot in Tenerife so didn’t find the London to Paris too hard hill wise. Getting back on the seat the next morning was probably the hardest thing. Felt bruised for days.

Anyone who lets themselves get 2 stone over weight will do it again.
